“Racial disparity in transformative assets became especially striking to Shapiro during interviews with middle-class black Americans. “They almost always talk about financial help they give family members. People come to them,” Shapiro said. But when he asked white interviewees if they were lending financial support to family members, he said, “I almost always get laughter. They’re still getting subsidized.”
This the hardest nigga I ever seen this is true big dick energy
God got him
Wow
Found this short documentary from 2014 about him and his forest:
Soil erosion is still a problem but the authorities do not appear to be listening to Jadav’s suggestions on combating the issue, according to the programme. He would like to plant coconut trees because they grow extremely straight and help prevent erosion if planted densely enough. The fruit could also be sold for economic gain.
The man turned that barren land into a whole fucking forest by hand for them. Yet they show no interest in investing in its upkeep nor the desire for financial gain via the coconut industry. I just…🙄
Here’s the update on the blade (click for better quality since tumblr is being an ass) I made circles around the bolts in the handle and for contrast I used pearls for the handle. I’m still doing final details but it’s almost done.
Y’all I finally got my Meds refilled (fucking Walgreens) and I’m feeling super inspired. I’m gonna bedazzle a machete stay tuned
SIDE ONE DONE. I use E6000 glue so I’m gonna let it cure for a few hours, maybe overnight before I do the other side.
I love how half of the responses are “I thought you used your pills to decorate the blade wtf”, then there’s people saying that now the machete is unusable.
Guys, I wasn’t planning on using the now-gem-encrusted machete for its intended purpose, I promise. It’s for decorative/shitposting use only
but in the opposite way, I mean, what we should ideally do is just have permanent DST and never revert back to standard time at all; what’s abominable is the whole premise of switching back and forth
in the spring, the switching part is cruel and unusual punishment, but the result is a vast improvement as daylight lasts longer into the afternoon and evening
in the fall, the switching part is quite nice, but the result is that we are plunged into darkness at midafternoon, there’s no daylight left after working hours and it’s bullshit
yes I am 100% focused on the impact on how we experience evenings, because who cares how light it is at six in the morning? nobody, that’s who. we are no longer living in a predominantly agricultural society. if you’re up that goddamn early, either 1. dawn y/n is the least of your worries and what you need isn’t daylight saving time but a better foothold against the depredations of late capitalism, or 2. you’re doing it on purpose in which case you can just goddamn deal with what you’ve deliberately bargained for
I do not support abolishing daylight time because the puritan larks are in charge of society, so what we’ll get if it goes away is not 365 daylight time, which would be great, but rather 365 standard time, which would fuck up summer evenings without fixing winter ones and just leave everything worse
thank you for coming to my TED talk
Yeah I mostly feel like this is the way to go, though I’d prefer we use non-DST all the time and just do everything an hour earlier in order to keep 12:00 close to solar noon for aesthetic reasons.
That being said, while something like “6 am to 6 pm or 7 am to 7 pm?” is a no-brainer, under solar time the shortest days in northern US and the populated bits of Canada are somewhere in the vicinity of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and “do you want 8 to 4 or 9 to 5″ is genuinely a tough call.
I do wonder if anyone has done research on whether people are more likely to have traffic accidents in the morning or evening commute. If you’re having to decide which one gets the hour of darkness, I suppose it might matter.
I guess I feel like living north enough that there’s an eight-hours-or-less-of-daylight situation in the winter constitutes a whole other level of daylight problem, in the sense where a big enough difference in degree is functionally a difference in type, and reframing that kind of problem by an hour one way or another isn’t meaningfully going to touch it.
I could be convinced that there’s a right answer by traffic accident data one way or another, but the effect might not be linear and I feel like there’d be a lot of confounders. I’m not sure analysis using adequate methodology is even possible. So the effect would have to be massive for me to buy it.
And defending the inclusion of transsexual
sisters in women’s spaces does not threaten the safety of any woman. The
AIDS movement, for example, battled against the right-wing
characterization of gay men as a “high-risk group.” We won an
understanding that there is no high-risk group – there are high-risk
behaviors. Therefore, creating safety in women’s space means we have to
define unsafe behavior – like racist behavior by white women towards
women of color, or dangerous insensitivity to disabilities.
Transsexual women are not a Trojan horse trying to infiltrate women’s
space. There have always been transsexual women helping to build the
women’s movement – they are part of virtually every large gathering of
women. They want to be welcomed into women’s space for the same reason
every woman does – to feel safe.
